Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder with an increasing prevalence. It comprises an entire spectrum of characteristics with two core manifestations: a defi cit __ampersandsignicirc;n social communication and the presence of repetitive behaviours and interests. The primary medical care personnel has an important role in the identifi cation of children with suggestive signs and their redirectioning towards specialized services and also in the long term management of their overall health. Having in mind the new directives regarding inclusive education in Romania, we have summarized some clinical characteristics and some possible interventions and recommendations regarding the interaction with autistic persons in order to be used not only by the personnel of the school medical offi ces but by all interested professionals.
